After meeting with a member of the Be a Greek team at the entrance of Dionysos Restaurant (parking lot below the main entrance of Acropolis), you will have the opportunity to visit some of the most famous and important archeological sites in the world and experience in full the incredible blend of history, tradition, religion that make Athens the place to visit.
Our walking tour will begin with the Areopagus where we will learn all about its history and why it serves as a typical example of an aetiological myth (a myth that exists to justify a cause).
The next part of our tour takes us to visit the magnificent Acropolis, which is located on a flat-topped rock that rises 150 m (490 ft.) above sea level, with a surface area of about 3 hectares (7.4 acres). Home to the Parthenon, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order and regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian Democracy and western civilization, it is by far the most important surviving building of Classical Greece; its decorative sculptures (like the Caryatids) are considered some of the highest points of Greek art.
After a short stop to admire the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, we will visit the new Acropolis Museum, built to house every artifact discovered on the Acropolis rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. With a collection of nearly 4,000 objects, exhibited over an area of 14,000 square meters, the Museum is constantly considered to be, from the first day of its opening to the public on the 20th of June 2009, one of the top museums in the world. Our extraordinary walking tour will be concluded at the Acropolis Metro Station.
