After departing from Athens early in the morning, we will head west towards Corinth and its wonderful Isthmus. After a short stop to take some pictures of the spectacular Canal, we will head to Mycenae, in eastern Peloponnesus, home of the legendary King Agamemnon. The city hosts the Great Cyclopean Walls surrounding an almost triangular acropolis, and some amazing architectural marvels like the legendary Lion’s Gate, the Treasure of Atreus, the Royal Tombs and the archaeological Museum that will remain forever in your heart.

After visiting the beautiful nearby seaport city of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, for a short coffee break (or an optional tasty lunch), we will head for the small coastal town of Epidaurus where we will have the chance to admire some of the true masterpieces of ancient Greek art, like the site dedicated to the ancient Greek god-physician, the Sanctuary of Asclepius, the most famous healing center of the Greek and Roman world in ancient times. Right next to it and remarkably well-adapted to the landscape lays the world famous Epidaurus Theatre, widely considered to be the most perfect example of Greek theatre in history, with its perfect acoustics and exceptional proportions, still in use today during the yearly Epidaurus Festival in August.

This extraordinary look back in Classical Greece through rural and coastal scenery alike will be concluded with our return to Athens in the early evening.
